Want to know about Face Mapping advantages and disadvantages.

One of my colleagues used face mapping in Meshing on the face of the interested or analyzing component but the result was not in trending manner, but he removed the face mapping from the face he was getting the results in trending manner.
I always check from show mappable faces. If it is mappable then I use face mapping else not.
So please kindly let me know when we have to use face mapping.
