Retrieve default element size

Hello all,

Is there a way to retrieve the default element size using Mechanical scripting?

I'm currently using Model.Mesh.ElementSize. This works as expected when an element size has been specified, however when the element size is set to default it returns 0.

Hi, I could get the name and value for the default element size via:

Model.Mesh.GetDetailsView().data[5].name
Model.Mesh.GetDetailsView().data[5].value

This returned:
'Element Size'
'Default (1.1057e-003 m)'

The only possible issue could be that this returns a String and not a Quantity. Maybe you can extract the relevant quantity from this string? Something like: float(Model.Mesh.GetDetailsView().data[5].value[9:-2])

If there is no value set, Model.Mesh.GetDetailsView().data[5].value will return 'Default' and I think what oliadag wants is the numerical value used for default during meshing. Oliadag, I'm not a developer so I don't know for sure, but it seems that the default size is calculated as needed when the meshing is being done. And not stored as a value. However here we can see what the value should be based on some other mesh settings. The bounding box components can be found with Model.Geometry.LengthX for the X length and similar for Y/Z. It does return a 'quantity' i.e. a value and a unit. So you would need to split that out. If doing this from the Mechanical scripting window maybe something like:

bbx = Model.Geometry.LengthX
bbx = str(bbx).split()
print bbx[0]

Then go from there to calculate the default value.
