Helix around a curve. For example half circle.
Hi everyone.
I am running a project for a CFD simulation of fluid flow inside an internally helical ribbed tube ( Rifled technology - tube) of a compact heat exchanger, where the tube would be bent 180 degrees.
I know how to draw a helix twisted a long straight curve using SpaceClaim. But how can I sweep a helical surface around a curved path rather than a straight line, or draw a helical 3D curve around another curved path?
Highly appreciated,
Michael

You can pull a X-section along any curve or path, so you only need to make a helical curve and a X-section surface. To make a helical curve, I suggest making a list of points based on a simple equation of your helix. You can then do a spline through those points, and this will make a curve in the tree. You then sketch/create your cross-sectional geometry, then pull that along the curve to extrude to 3D.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for you response.
Looks like I did not make it clear.
I meant to pull surface round a circle, during the pull, the surface should twist around the circle in a helical shape. Or draw a 3D helical curve around the circle and then sweep any surface across it.https://math.stackexchange.com/questions/3559193/how-to-calculate-the-spiral-around-a-curve
Kind regards,
